The Walks
Helping Ukrainian, Russian, and Belarussian teens at risk who fled the Russian-Ukrainian war, settle in Israel with acclimation support, weekly youth groups, and a national teen help line.
The Walks was created to help these teens settle in Israel – they came with just 24 hours notice, often with not more than they could carry. And they were expected to fit in – and they do, but with a little help from Nastya, Miriam, Bella, and the rest.
Sadly, the teens came from a war zone, and now are living in a war zone. The Walks has set up national teen help line and WhatsApp groups – with active groups in 5 cities in Israel. More than 500 teens participate on a weekly basis (like a youth group), and hundreds more in the chat groups.
Why teens? The younger kids are well taken care of in the school system, and the adults are adults and can manage and use resources as necessary. But teens can easily get lost, take to the streets (drugs, alcohol, gangs, etc.)…..
They work on acclimation skills into Israeli society including preparing the teens for being drafted into the IDF.
